Poetic fantasy!

Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2017

I don't think I've read a supernatural/ fantasy novel since I was in my teens or early 20's, but reading this book made me remember my natural affinity for this genre! I am definitely going to be adding it to my future reading repertoire! This book was written beautifully, almost like a long prose poem. The writing was sensual - full of colors, scents, tastes, sounds. I enjoyed the first-person narration and experiencing the events as they occurred through Alex's eyes. While I'm not familiar with fantasy lore, I'm curious about the magical world described here and am interested in learning more. I understand this is the 2nd book in the series, and I think reading the previous one first would have probably benefited me in terms of understanding more background information. I really liked the ending and the way the particular mystery was solved, yet with Alex's personal saga clearly leading into the next installment of the series.
