From the author of the Jeremy Winter Thriller series comes a new tale of suspense featuring protagonist Amara Alvarez, Property Crimes detective in San Antonio, TX. Alvarez, eager to move up the career ladder to more exciting cases, learns to be careful of what she wishes for as she finds herself embroiled in a mystery so big it involves multiple governments and secret agents, where nothing and no one is what they seem. The story begins to unfold when Alvarez meets a grieving mother who purportedly received a text message from her son who died in a school bus accident three years ago (p. 10). When another parent of one of the children who died in the tragedy receives a mysterious note, Alvarez starts to discover the connections and the bodies start to pile up (pp. 23-62). As she enlists the help of the medical examiner and homicide department, the case turns on its head when they realize the entire accident may have been a cover-up and the children could be still alive (p. 41 ff). Suddenly it’s a race against time where Alvarez has to find out who she can trust as she searches for answers to what happened to the missing children. This work will keep readers on the edge of their seats - a top-notch, nail-biting thriller expertly crafted by Threadgill, who will quickly establish himself as a master of intrigue with this riveting novel. 5 stars.
